Local Medical Director

Born and raised in Charlotte, NC and Moved to GA in 2002 after completing Emergency Medicine Residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Attended Tulane University for undergraduate work and graduated in 1992 with a degree in Anthropology. Following Tulane, attended Georgetown University and earned a masters degree in Physiology. After Georgetown, enrolled in the Univ. of Maryland School of Medicine and graduated in 1999. Once in Georgia, practiced full time hospital based Emergency Medicine for 10 years. Currently, working clinically in urgent care and the medical director for several EMS/ambulance agencies in Georgia. Spends free time fishing, landscaping, reading and spending time with wife and 2 daughters.


Healthcare Provider

Nicole Rivera is a nationally Board Certified Physician Assistant that has been serving the Cherokee County for 10 years. Ms. Rivera has experience in Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, and Family Medicine. She provides acute and preventative care for children, adolescents, and adults. Ms. Rivera graduated with highest honors from Nova Southeastern University School of Medicine’s Physician Assistant program and obtained her undergraduate degree from The Pennsylvania State University. Ms. Rivera is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. PA Rivera strives to deliver quality and compassionate care to the wonderful patients she serves on a daily basis.


Clinical Lead

Pete is an Atlanta native who graduated from Woodward Academy ’89. He received his undergraduate degree in Human Biology from the University of Northern Colorado ’93, and an Associate’s degree in paramedic studies from Clayton State University ’95. Pete completed the Physician Assistant program Medical College of Georgia Suma Cum Laude ’98. During his 18 year career he has practiced emergency medicine in metro Atlanta, worked part-time in orthopedics; and was a partner in several urgent cares.


Healthcare Provider

Dr. Leila McKinney is a nationally certified family nurse practitioner with over twenty-one years of healthcare experience. She began as a registered nurse in 1996, working in oncology, emergency, critical care, and surgical services. After completing her MSN at the University of South Florida (USF) in 2006 she began working as a provider in the ER while completing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree (DNP), also at USF. She graduated with her DNP in 2009.

In addition to more than ten years as an advanced practice provider in emergent, urgent, and pediatric facilities, Dr. McKinney has worked extensively in academic administration and teaching, including serving as the campus president for Chamberlain College of Nursing in Atlanta for five years. She continues to teach part-time in several graduate nursing programs.

Born and raised in Georgia, Leila was glad to return in 2011 after living nineteen years in the Tampa Bay, Florida area. In her free time Leila enjoys spending time on the water, cooking, and working on her reef aquarium.


Healthcare Provider

Sarah is a board certified family nurse practitioner originally from the Pacific Northwest. She
earned her bachelor degree from East Carolina University, her master of science in nursing from
DePaul University in Chicago, and her family nurse practitioner certificate from the University of
Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). She is currently finishing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
degree at UTC and will graduate in December 2017.
Sarah has been working in healthcare for 16 years and has worked in outpatient, inpatient, and
telehealth settings. She has experience caring for acute and chronic illnesses with an emphasis
on adolescent, young adult, and women’s health. However, she has had opportunities to care
for patients across the life span including newborns to Baby Boomers. In addition to working as
a family nurse practitioner, Sarah works full-time as a faculty member in the College of Nursing
at East Tennessee State University.
Sarah recently relocated to the Atlanta area to be closer to family and is looking forward to
experiencing life in Georgia. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking with her husband and three
daughters, running, and home improvement projects.
